How to Dress Like an Elegant Christian Woman
“Your Body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you. You are not your own, but you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
Whether it’s an unexpected dinner invitation or a last-minute request to a formal event; it can be a challenging task to put together an outfit without the proper items in your wardrobe.
I have always felt that I was born in the wrong era. I love looking at vintage photos; the women look flawless, elegant, and exquisite. From their makeup down to their shoes, these ladies were the epitome of modest elegance.
But did you know that most women of the vintage era had fewer clothes than we do today? They knew how to purchase for less and choose well, allowing themselves to always look well-polished and put together.
With a little time and effort, you, too, can look like a timeless beauty for any occasion. Here are the nine must-have items you should keep in your closet to look elegant.
1. Sheath Dress: An absolute must! A sheath dress is the most versatile dress that you can own; it can be worn all year long and to any occasion. I recommend keeping at least three; black, red, and white. A sleeveless sheath dress with a modest neckline, preferably square or high, will look classy and offer the most versatility. You can pair it with a blazer, shawl, or wear it solo, depending on the weather. Keep it simple with a pair of elegant pearls, pumps, and your favorite shade of red lipstick.
2. Fitted blazer: A well-tailored blazer is so elegant and classy and will instantly slim any figure for a well-polished and modest look. It can be mixed and matched with other basic items depending on the event. You can also wear the blazer with your sheath dress from tip number one above!
3. Skirt: Have at least one skirt in your closet. I suggest an A-line or pencil skirt with a hem to the knee in a basic color such as black. If you are a full-figured gal, a flare at the bottom will look amazing on you!
4. White Blouse: A white blouse will instantly add a touch of elegance to any outfit. For a nice silhouette, select one that tapers in at the waist. Wrapped blouses are very elegant and can be worn with a pair of jeans or a skirt. I like to keep several white blouses in different materials: lace, satin, and cotton depending on the weather and affair. If the neck line is low, wear a camisole underneath to stay modest.
5. Basic pair of black pumps (not stilettos): You should keep a basic black pair of pumps in your wardrobe staple. They are versatile and can be used on any occasion. I also like to keep a pair of nude heels and mules in my shoe arsenal as well.
6. Dress Coat: When the season permits, there is nothing more elegant than a beautiful dress coat. I love a princess cut or a wrap. Adding a matching handbag in the same color will turn heads! If you are looking for a touch of glamour, a trench coat will do the trick and it can also double as a raincoat.
7. Elegant Handbag: An elegant handbag that is also versatile (can go from work to dinner) will also go with many different outfits! If you like leather, like I do, try to buy from a reputable dealer who uses leather taken from the by-product of food and dairy (cruelty free).
8. Dress Gloves: I believe an elegant woman should always have dress gloves in her purse. They help you to look more modest and better put together. You can also choose from various fabrics to match your own personality and style.
9. Holy Christian Veil: Ladies, something else for you to pray about and to deeply consider is wearing a head covering when you pray and worship God, You should also cover your head when you are outside of the home or whenever you are around unrelated men. From ancient times, women of God have always worn head coverings to show that they are completely devoted and submitted to God's Holy Order (1 Corinthians 11:2-6). As Christian women we have been instructed by the Holy Word of God to not only cover our heads out of respect to Him and His Holy Order: God the Father, Christ Jesus His Son, man/husband, woman/wife, and children; but to also wear a Christian Veil during prayer and worship. The Bible also tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), so therefore, we should wear our Christian Veil at all times! I strongly ask that you pray to God for instruction and guidance on this subject as it is a personal matter for each woman.
Additional Tips
Keep jewelry to a minimum. Pearls are always elegant and go with anything! However, due to animal cruelty techniques used on pearl farms, I strongly suggest buying a pair of immitaion pearls and not real ones. If you are not a pearl girl, then invest in a nice pair of gold, silver, or diamond/cubic zirconia stud earrings, whatever will fit your budget.
Keep nails well-groomed at all times, nothing looks worse than scraggly unkept nails. A clear polish does wonders at the last moment. It looks natural and feminine. And never go overboard with the perfume! Remember less is more and there is beauty is simplicity!
An elegant Christian woman can have a beautiful modest wardrobe and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Knowing how to shop for the right pieces of garments and what to match together is the key.
If you like high-quality items, like I do, then watch and wait for the sales from your favorite stores. I have bought dresses worth hundreds of dollars for a fraction of the cost. This goes for high-quality shoes as well.
So, there you have it!
And remember, ladies, true elegance and beauty comes from within.💋
