Learn How to Start a Blog and Make Money Writing About Things You Love!
Blogs are no longer considered a hobby or just a place to share your personal feelings and memoir writings. A well-written blog can actually become a lucrative business and also attract the right customers you need. And guess what? Starting a blog is not difficult and I am going to share some things with you to help get you started!

How to Start a Blog:
Choose a profitable niche or topic for your blog: It is very important to pick a topic or niche that you are passionate about so that you will stay motivated to write. Do research to see what topics people are most interesed in so you can determine if your topic is profitable or not. For instance, if you are really pasionate about sewing, there might already be a bunch of blogs dedicated to sewing. But if you narrow your niche and target a specific demographic or audience such as "using sewing as therapy" or to "combat anxiety", you can chisel out a nice corner in the market.
Build your blog on a site that you can use to make money: A blogging platform doesn't have to cost you anything and there are many companies that offer free versions. However, if you want to set up a shop and paid ads, you might need to purchase a premium package. Shop around and choose a site that fits your personality and taste. The most popular blogging platforms are Wix, WordPress, Hostinger, Squarespace, and Shopify. Even though most blogging sites offer free domain names, your blog will look more attractive and professional if you personalize it. It also makes it easier for people to find you on the web. Choose a name that is short but also includes relevant keywords that reflect your site's topic or niche. For example if your blog is about fishing, you might want a domain name like "Takemefishing.net" or "Fishingblog.com".
Blog or write about your expertise: To earn the trust of your readers, you may want to write about your personal life experiences or about any knowledge that you may have on a specific subject or in any area of life. You don't have to have a college degree to help and teach others. To me, life experiences and wisdom are far more valuable. In addition to assisting others, your writings and blogs will feel more personable and authentic. This is very important because it could attract more visitors which could mean more customers which could mean more money! Demonstrating your knowledge and life skills to your readers to earn their loyalty and trust could convince them to purchase services and goods from you rather than going out to purchase them in the non-blogging world.
Create content that leads people to buy things from you: You are going to want to monetize your blog by using it to market your brand, goods, and services. For instance, if you are selling goods and services, you can write blog posts and articles that explore common topics or problems. You then can include information about how your services or products can help people to solve any related problems they may be experiencing. For example, I once wrote an article on brain fog, then included affiliate links to the coffee I was selling that promoted brain health.
Advertise your freelance services: Use your blog as a tool to market and advertise your services and gain clients. For instance, if you have skills such as copywriting, web design, or photography, you can blog about your services. I landed my very first client by advertising my niche and skills in medical terminology. Not only was the money excellent, but I also gained new and invaluable skills in traumatic brain injury, podcasting, and memoir writing! In order to advertise your blog, you should create an "About Me" section on your blog or webite and make sure to include a short bio about yourself and a "Contact Form" so people can get in touch with you. You can also create a "bio footer" to place at the bottom of your blogs telling your readers a little about yourself. Another important thing you will need is a portfolio. My first client wanted to see a sample of my writings before he hired my freelance writing services. I use Journo, because it's free (up to 10 articles) and it looks very professional. Share your content on social media: I love free advertising! Take advantage of your free social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Pinterest (you can also add affiliate links on Pinterest!), and Instagram. You should create a separate account for your blog or website, remember you are a professsional promoting a service, so you want to look the part to attract new viewers, readers, and clients.
Sell merchandise through your blog: You can set up a special page on your blog to sell items and services, or you can become an affiliate marketer and sell products for other small businesses and brands. I am an affiliate with ShareASale. I simply applied to be a member, then once I was accepted, I searched for brands that interested me and partnered with them to promote and sell their products. This is a fun way to write content and make money at the same time. For instance, I love fashion and products from Italy, so I became an affiliate with Vienne Milano, Made-in-Italy Stay Up Thigh Highs. I now write blog posts, articles, and advertising on Italian hosiery and lingerie, then simply include my commision-based affiliate links within the posts!
Learning how to start a blog is a fun adventure that can also bring you an enjoyable and lurcrative income with much freedom and comfort.
Important tips!
Try not to overcrowd you page with paid ads, It's a huge distraction and can drive away your readers and any potential clients.
Another good idea is to create a "Testimonials" page and then ask your satisfied readers, clients, or customers to write a testimony about the information, services, or goods they received from you so you can post it on your page.
Remember, your blog is your voice. Keep your writings warm, welcoming, and even a little entertaining at times. Develop trust and a good rapport with your readers. Most of all, do it with passion and have fun!
